Balchad is a perennial herb that is proliferated by cuttings of the underground parts of the plant. Balchad grows in the Alpine Himalayas, at an altitude of 3000-5000 meters and is cultivated in areas ranging from Punjab to Sikkim and Bhutan.It has been in use among the Indians as a perfume and medicine from ancient times.

BENEFITS OF BALCHAD POWDER

Balchad can be used internally as well as externally. The roots of the herb Balchad tone the brain and stabilize mental ability. It is an excellent tonic as it helps to subside all the three humors. It is a well-known brain tonic and imparts a sense of calm and peace to mind.

  • Improves complexion and aids in healthy and a glowing look.
  • It alleviates pain and swelling.
  • It helps to maintain healthy hair growth and strengthens the body.
  • It also helps for maintaining the normal blood pressure.
  • It is used as an adjunct in the treatment of sexual debility and impotence and is used in menstrual ailments.
  • Since it is fragrant, jatamamsi powder is used as a deodorant in case of excessive sweating.

HOW TO USE BALCHAD POWDER?

For Healthy state of mind: Ayurveda recommends use of several herbs for this. Use mixture of four Ayurvedic herbal Powders:

  • Shatavari– 5 teaspoons
  • Brahmi– 3 teaspoons
  • Guduchi – 5 teaspoons
  • Jatamansi – 3 teaspoons
  • Mix these Powders, add 1/2 cup of water to about 1/4 of mixture and drink it 3 times a day.

Caution:

  • Balchad, when consumed in large doses, causes vomiting and diarrhea with abdominal pain, nausea, colic and urinary problems.
